Leather is originally animal skin that has undergone some kind of process, natural or artificial, to become resistant to rotting and other processes that destroy the animal skin. In nature these processes are usually coincidental and a product of luck and circumstances. Humans, on the other hand have been able to create leather by actions of their own accord when they need them whether for personal use or for trade. Leather has been a companion of the human race in many periods of our history and it is witness to our actions.
Throughout history, leather has been used by humans to achieve their goals. During prehistoric times, its use has since been needed by our ancestors for their survival against the harsh environment and protection from weather and climate. Time passes and it began to serve a new purpose and that is to decorate and advertise their accomplishments, status, authority and status to others of their own kind. This has been done and seen through various means. For example a chieftain will wear processed animal skin that represents them and their tribe. Further in time we go and we find ourselves in the time of the merchants. They travel all over the world and trade goods in order to accumulate more profit. The more commodities that they have, the more profit they can gain. One of these commodities used for profit that was ever profitable was leather. When wars are fought during medieval times, leather was used to protect its fighters from direct blows that would otherwise instantly killed them if they had been wearing normal clothes of that time and in times of war it has been used as a means to beautify a person. The aesthetic quality of leather has given it world renowned recognition and fame. In fact, leather clothing is a relatively expensive commodity in our communities today and one of the end products that are in demand today is leather skirts.

• Leather is a breathable material that is relatively more durable than many of its alternatives. Plastic has been said to become warm and uncomfortable to wear. cotton on the other hand may be comfortable too but leather gives of a different kind of comfort to its wearer.
• Leather skirts are very easy to style. It has aesthetic qualities that can make it go with almost every occasion as long as the design of the leather skirt is right. There are leather skirts for different occasions like the leather mini skirts, long leather skirts, brown leather skirts, red leather skirts.
